Title I

The Ohio Department of Education is requiring districts to provide public comments on out Title I plan.

Vision Statements

Science
Defiance City Schools’ Science Department will foster student curiosity, build critical thinking and problem-solving skills, enhance scientific literacy and guide students to see the pathways they can take into science-related careers. These next generation leaders will communicate effectively, work cooperatively, and use science to solve local and global issues.

English/Language Arts
The English Language Arts teachers at Defiance City Schools believe it is essential to guide our students through and to achieve the requirements of our state standards in reading, writing, speaking and listening skills using explicit instruction grounded in research-proven structured literacy curricula.  Toward the end we will provide our students with the necessary resources and guidance they will need to be successful in an increasingly complex and technologically driven world.  Our teachers will also bear in mind that while academics is our main focus, we must also consider the individual needs and challenges faced by each of our students in order to realize their potential.

PARENTS RIGHT TO KNOW

As a parent, you have the right to know about the teaching qualifications of your child’s classroom teacher in a school receiving Title I funds. The federal Every Student Succeeds Act requires that any local school district receiving Title I funds must notify parents that they may ask about the professional qualifications of their child’s classroom teacher.

These qualifications include:

1. Whether the teacher has met the Ohio teacher licensing criteria for the grade level and subject areas in which the teacher provides your child instruction.

2. Whether the teacher is teaching under emergency or temporary status that waives state licensing requirements.

3. The undergraduate degree major of the teacher and any other graduate degree or certification (such as National Board Certification) held by the teacher and the field of discipline of certification or degree.

4. Whether your child is provided services by instructional paraprofessionals and, if so, their qualifications.
